Unveiling Hyperrail Detective, a noir monster-collecting game
We’ve made an early build of Hyperrail Detective available to the public! We’re looking for feedback on the game systems, including the combat, dialogue, settings, and anything else you come across.
Hyperrail Detective is a roguelite based on retro Pokémon games, set in a cyberpunk world. Explore a futuristic train, collect robot monsters, and battle your way to the lead car. Collect clues and slowly piece together the story as you go along.
This prototype mostly focuses on the core combat system. This will be familiar to anyone who has played Pokemon, with a few key differences:
- Recharging: Instead of PP, each mech has an energy level that is depleted by using moves. Carefully monitor your energy levels, and take advantage of the opponent’s energy to plan out your moves in advance!
- Defensive options: instead of using items, you have the option to use a defensive motion to protect yourself against incoming attacks. You can block to reduce incoming damage, or parry to launch your own counterattack.
- Stun: As you sustain damage, you’ll build up stun. Once it reaches max, incoming damage is doubled!
- Modular attacks: Freely change your mech’s move assignments. Need more coverage on your Thermal type? Swap a move over from your Hydraulic type!
- Customized upgrades: Allocate xp as you see fit. Mechs have individual stat limits, but you can upgrade each stat to customize your party’s specialties within those parameters.
We’re working on adding content, including new mechs, new moves, and new car types. We’ll update this blog with details on all the new features we make, so check back here for updates!
